분류체계
몸길이 136cm, 꼬리 길이 14cm이다. 몸은 황갈색, 등에 비늘 4~5개 너비로 청록색 가로 띠가 75개, 꼬리에는 8개가 있는데 그 모양이 일정하지 않다. 머리는 녹색을 띤 갈색이며 주둥이 끝에서 옆면에 걸쳐 황갈색 부분이 있다. 몸 앞쪽 가는 부분의 배에 청흑색 세로줄이 있다. 몸은 비교적 가늘고 길며 특히 앞쪽 부분이 가늘지만 먹대가리바다뱀보다는 가늘지 않다. 이마판은 짧고 윗머리판은 이마판보다 뚜렷이 길다. 여름철에 해수 온도가 상승할 경우, 일부 개체가 올라오는 것으로 알려져 있다. 생태에 대해서는 거의 알려져 있지 않다. 하이난을 포함한 남중국해, 타이완을 포함한 동중국해, 인도네시아, 뉴기니, 일본 등지에 분포하는 것으로 알려져 있다.
