Pseudostellaria heterophylla var. puberula Ohwi
숲속에 자라는 여러해살이풀이다. 덩이뿌리는 방추형이며, 흰색 또는 회색을 띤 노란색이다. 줄기는 곧추서며, 높이 8~20cm, 겉에 털이 2줄로 난다. 줄기 끝부분의 잎은 2쌍이 돌려난 것처럼 보이며, 넓은 난형으로 길이 3~6cm, 폭 1~2cm, 연한 녹색이다. 꽃은 4~5월에 피며, 줄기 끝 잎겨드랑이에서 1~5개가 취산꽃차례를 이룬다. 꽃자루는 길이 1~4cm이다. 꽃받침잎은 5장, 피침형이며, 길이 1mm이다. 꽃잎은 5장, 길이 7~8mm, 가장자리는 밋밋하거나 조금 갈라진다. 수술은 10개이며 꽃잎보다 짧다. 암술은 3개, 수술보다 조금 길다. 폐쇄화는 꽃자루가 짧으며, 꽃잎이 없고, 수술 2개, 암술대 3개이다. 열매는 삭과, 5~6월에 익으면 3갈래로 갈라진다. 우리나라 전역에 나며, 일본, 중국 등에 분포한다. 줄기 끝부분의 잎이 넓은 난형이고, 꽃자루에 짧은 털이 있어서 큰개별꽃과 구분된다. 덩이뿌리를 태자삼(太子蔘)이라 하여 강장제로 쓴다.
