Hedera quinquefolia L.
북아메리카 원산이며 정원, 담장, 옹벽 등에 관상용, 녹화용으로 식재하는 낙엽 활엽 덩굴나무이다. 줄기는 원통형이며, 털이 없다. 덩굴손은 잎과 마주나고, 5~9갈래로 갈라진다. 잎은 어긋나며, 잎자루는 길이 5~14cm다. 잎몸은 5개의 작은잎으로 된 손바닥모양겹잎이다. 작은잎은 넓은 난형 또는 난상 타원형으로 길이 5~15cm, 폭 3~9cm, 가장자리에 불규칙한 톱니가 있다. 잎 뒷면에 듬성하게 잔털이 있다. 꽃은 6~7월에 잎겨드랑이에서 난 길이 8~20cm인 취산꽃차례에 피며, 노란빛이 도는 녹색이다. 꽃자루는 길이 1.5~2.5mm, 털이 없다. 꽃잎은 5장, 수술은 5개, 암술은 1개다. 열매는 둥근 장과로 지름 1cm쯤이며, 8~10월에 검게 익고, 씨는 1~4개 들어 있다. 우리나라 전역에서 식재하며, 북아메리카 동부에 분포한다. 국내에 자생하는 담쟁이덩굴에 비해 잎은 작은잎 5장으로 된 손바닥 모양 겹잎이므로 구분된다. 관상용으로 심는다. 양담쟁이라고도 한다.
