쓰레기국화
열대 아메리카 원산의 귀화식물이며 쓰레기장 주변, 빈터에서 자라는 한해살이풀이다. 줄기가 다소 연약하고 높이 10~60cm이며 가지가 갈라져 있다. 잎은 마주나기로 달리고, 피침상 난형으로서 잎의 기부에서 주맥이 3개로 갈라지고 가장자리에 거친 톱니가 있으며 잎자루가 있다. 꽃은 5~10월에 머리모양꽃차례로 피는데 머리모양꽃은 지름이 5mm 정도이다. 머리모양꽃 주변부의 혀모양꽃과 중앙부의 통모양꽃으로 구성되어 있다. 혀모양꽃은 5개, 꽃부리가 흰색, 우산털이 없다. 통모양꽃은 황색이다. 모인꽃싸개 조각은 5개씩이며 겉에 샘털이 있다. 열매는 6~10월에 익는다. 우리나라 전역에 자라며, 전 세계적으로 퍼져 귀화하여 분포한다. 이 종은 혀모양꽃에 우산털이 없는 특징으로써 털쓰레기국화와 구분할 수 있다. 잎, 줄기, 꽃을 날 것 또는 익혀서 식용으로 쓸 수 있지만 염소에게 독성이 있다. 별꽃과 비슷하게 생겨서 별꽃아재비라고도 부르고, 쓰레기장 주변에 흔히 자라므로 쓰레기꽃이라고도 한다.
