Anas olor Gmelin, 1789
기러기목 오리과의 조류로 매우 드문 겨울철새이다[멸종위기 야생생물 Ⅰ급]. 몸길이 152cm. 암수의 형태가 유사하다. 몸은 전체적으로 흰색이며 다리는 검은색, 부리는 오렌지색으로 부리 기부에 검은색 혹이 있다. 수생식물의 뿌리와 줄기를 먹으면서 하구, 저수지, 호수 등지에 서식한다. 우리나라 전역에 도래하나 호수 주변 개발, 수초 제거 등으로 인해 도래 개체 수가 감소하고 있다. 유럽 중·서부, 몽골, 바이칼호 동부, 우수리강 유역에서 번식하고, 소아시아, 북아프리카, 중국 동부, 한국에서 월동한다. [저작재산권자]

국내의 주요 도래지는 화진포호, 송지호, 청초호 등 강원 북부의 석호지역이었으나 최근에는 거의 관찰되지 않으며, 시화호, 영종도, 천수만, 낙동강하구, 진주남강, 제주도 등지에서 소수가 관찰된다. [1]
유럽 북부, 아프리카 북부, 러시아 중남부, 몽골, 일본, 인도 등지에 분포한다. 유럽 중·서부, 몽골, 바이칼호 동부, 우수리강 유역에서 번식하고, 소아시아, 북아프리카, 중국 동부, 한국에서 월동한다. [1]

드문 겨울철새. 하구, 저수지, 호수 등지에 서식한다. 먹이를 찾을 때는 몸을 거꾸로 해 물속에 머리를 목까지 넣어 먹이를 찾아 먹는다. 먹이는 수생식물을 주식으로 하고 수서동물도 먹는다. 번식은 갈대와 수생식물이 무성한 호수나 습지의 작은 섬에서 풀잎과 줄기 그리고 흙을 이용해 둥지를 만든다. 번식기는 4월 중순에서 5월이며, 한 번에 2~5개의 알을 낳는다. 알은 잿빛 청록색을 띤 흰색이다. [1]
