몸길이 39~40cm이다. 암수는 생김새가 비슷하다. 갈까마귀보다 좀 크다. 깃털은 전체적으로 검은색이다. 다리와 부리는 붉은색이다. 20마리 이상 무리를 지어 날아다니는 것을 볼 수 있다. 낭떠러지에 있는 굴이나 바위틈에 나뭇가지로 둥지를 만든다. 알은 3개를 낳는다. 무척추동물을 먹이로 한다. 영국, 아일랜드, 스페인, 지중해 연안, 서아시아, 중앙아시아에 분포한다. [저작재산권자]
