Sitta europaea (Linnaeus, 1758) (동고비)
참새목 동고비과에 속하는 조류이다. 겨울깃의 앞이마와 접하는 부분은 그을린 붉은색을 띤 흰색이다. 뚜렷한 검은색의 눈선이 있고, 턱 밑, 뺨, 귀깃, 멱, 가슴은 흰색이나 개체에 따라서는 가슴에 다소의 붉은 황색을 띤다. 배는 황갈색이다. 배 옆에 갈색 및 밤색의 얼룩점이 있다. 머리꼭대기로부터 위꼬리덮깃까지의 등 쪽은 전부 청색을 띤 잿빛이다. 여름깃은 깃털이 마모되어 색이 전체적으로 퇴색한다. 부리는 길어서 머리 길이와 같고 곧다. 잡목림, 침엽수, 혼효림에 사는 흔한 텃새이다. 단독 또는 암수가 함께 생활하며 번식이 끝나면 다른 새들과 섞여 숲속을 돌아다니며 먹이를 찾는다. 4-6월에 7개의 알을 낳는다. 곤충이나 거미, 각종 종자와 열매를 먹는다. 전국에 서식하고 세계적으로는 아무르 남부, 우수리, 만주, 일본에 분포한다.
