생물종 상세정보
메기목 동자개과에 속하는 어류이다. 몸 전체 길이는 약 20cm이다. 몸통은 원통 모양이고 머리는 아래위로 납작하며 꼬리 쪽은 옆으로 납작하다. 주둥이 끝은 뾰족하며 아래턱이 위턱보다 짧아 입은 주둥이 끝의 아래로 열린다. 입가에는 네 쌍의 비교적 짧은 입수염이 있으며 위턱에 있는 것이 가장 길어 가슴지느러미의 아래를 넘어간다. 비늘은 없고 옆줄은 완전하다. 가슴지느러미와 등지느러미의 가시는 크고 잘 발달하였으며 세울 수 있다. 가슴지느러미의 가시에는 안과 밖에 톱니가 있다. 기름지느러미가 잘 발달하나 꼬리지느러미와 연결되지 않는다. 꼬리지느러미의 뒤쪽 가장자리는 가운데가 깊이 갈라져 위아래 조각으로 나뉜다. 몸은 황갈색 바탕에 옆면에 암갈색의 큰 무늬가 있다. 모든 지느러미의 끝은 대체로 검은색을 띤다. 하천 중하류 지역에서 주로 발견되고 동물성 먹이를 먹고 산다. 우리나라에서는 서해와 남해로 흐르는 하천에 서식하고, 세계적으로는 중국, 타이완, 시베리아에 분포한다. 야행성으로 밤에 나와서 먹이를 찾는다. 수서곤충이나 물고기알, 새우류, 작은 동물을 먹는다. 산란기는 5~7월로 수컷이 가슴지느러미의 가시를 이용하여 진흙바닥을 파내어 산란실을 만들고 암컷에게 산란을 시킨다. [2]
