Arca granosa Linnaeus, 1758
돌조개목 돌조개과에 속하는 해산 연체동물이다. 큰 것은 폭이 5cm 정도이나 보통 3~4cm 내외의 것이 많다. 세로로 17~18개 정도의 방사륵(세로 융기선)이 있고 방사륵 위에 결절이 있다. 새꼬막과 유사하지만 방사륵의 수(새꼬막 30~34개)에서 차이가 난다. 대표적인 양식종으로 전남 벌교 지역을 중심으로 양식장이 넓게 형성되어 있으며, 살포식으로 양식한다. 갯벌 조간대 하부에서 수심 10m 범위에서 주로 서식하는데 양식은 조간대 하부에서 수심 1~2m 내외에서 주로 이루어진다. <자산어보>에도 진미 음식으로 소개되어 있으며 예로부터 전라도의 토산물로 알려져 있다. 세계적으로 널리 분포한다. 자웅이체로 성비는 보통 1:1 수준이며, 산란은 보통 7~10월경으로 알려져 있는데 주 산란 시기는 7~8월로 밝혀져 있다. [1]
