개비자

산지 숲속에 자라는 상록 침엽 작은큰키나무이다. 줄기는 높이 2~3m이다. 잎은 2줄로 붙고, 선형, 끝이 뾰족하다. 잎 양면에 가운데 잎맥이 뚜렷하고, 뒷면은 가운데 잎맥 양쪽에 흰 기공선이 있다. 3~5월에 구화수가 암수딴그루에 달린다. 열매는 육질의 가종피로 완전히 덮여 있으며, 타원형, 이듬해 9~10월에 붉게 익는다. 우리나라 경기도 이남에 나며, 일본에 분포한다. 개비자나무는 잎이 긴 선형으로 끝이 뾰족하지만 찔려도 따끔하지 않은 점에서 비자나무와 구별된다. 또한 열매가 홍자색으로 익으며, 겉에 다소 딱딱한 부속물이 완전히 둘러싸며, 난형이나 타원형으로 길이 2.5cm 정도인 점에서 주목과 구별된다. 이 종은 잎과 수형이 아름다운 관상자원으로 가치가 높으므로 국외 반출을 감시할 필요가 있다.
