Tussilago japonicum L.
국화목 국화과에 속하는 관속식물이다. 높이는 30~50cm이다. 긴 잎자루가 있는 잎은 뿌리에서 모여난다. 전체에 연한 갈색 솜털이 있다. 잎은 콩팥 모양이며 길이 4~15cm, 너비 6~30cm로 두껍고 윤채가 있다. 잎 가장자리에는 이모양톱니가 있거나 밋밋하다. 꽃은 9~10월에 꽃줄기 끝에서 머리모양꽃이 산방꽃차례처럼 달리며 노란색이다. 꽃줄기는 길이 30~75cm이고 꽃자루는 1.5~7.0cm다. 머리모양꽃은 지름 4~6cm다. 열매는 수과이며 털이 매우 많다. 우산털은 흑갈색이다. 바닷가 숲속에서 자라는 상록성 여러해살이풀이다. 머위와 함께 잎자루를 식용 및 약용하며, 관상용으로 심는다. 머위와 유사하지만, 꽃대가 길게 나오고 꽃은 노란색이며, 잎에 윤채가 있는 것이 다르다. 우리나라의 남부 지역인 전라남도, 경상남도 남해안 도서 지방 및 울릉도, 제주도에서 자생하며, 타이완, 일본, 중국 동부 등에 분포한다.
